Exit Ramp Guerilla Garden

Welcoming visitors to Newport

Several years ago, the city removed a row of evergreen hedges across the street from our house. The hedges had blocked the view of a concrete exit ramp barrier wall, and the many cars using the exit ramp. In 2023 we decided to replant the space ourselves with tall canna lilies (the term guerilla gardening refers to the practice of gardening on land you do not own). The view from our living room is much improved and the motorists entering Newport are greeted by a nice punch of color.
