Winter Containers
Bringing light and life to the darkness
The days are now the shortest of the year and the skies tend to be a bit more gray. For many of us, that means an even greater need for color and the sense of life represented by evergreen boughs. The urn pictured here is filled to overflowing with five different varieties of evergreens, along with seed pods, pine cones, birch branches and a splash of color with red berries and yellow dogwood twigs.
Winter Examples
12” Hayrack
I kept a purple kale from the Fall planting in this hayrack and added a few evergreens, faux berries, dried seed heads and willow branches for a classic Winter combo. A dusting of snow adds to the effect.
12” Urn
This client likes to incorporate a bit of whimsy into her designs. The jolly Santa and wrapped present under the decorated tree, along with some evergreen branches and faux berries, say Merry Christmas to passers-by.
14” Urn
I thought I would surprise this client, whose mother emigrated from England, with a palace guard nutcracker. The red of the guard’s coat is carried throughout with faux berries, Christmas ornaments, package wrapping, and a big bow.
