Seasonal Containers
Tall crotons act as the thrillers in this “Thriller, Filler, Spiller” design.
Summer Containers
The season of exuberance
Summer is about abundance and color, so I like to design containers for the season which overflow and make a statement. I designed these three 6-foot long windowboxes for a friend who owns a small retail shop. She wanted something on the “hot” side of the color wheel, which would attract the attention of people driving along the major thoroughfare in front of her store. The 18 feet of red, yellow, and orange petunias, verbenas, million bells, and crotons was truly eye-catching.
Summer Examples
14” Urn
I incorporated orange and green into this design to complement the primary colors of our house. This urn faces west and so I chose plants which can take the hot afternoon sun.
36” Windowboxes
We have four 36-inch windowboxes with a timed watering system on our deck railing. This year (2022) I chose a pink theme which included cascading geraniums and petunias, as well as a new series of Caladiums which do well in full sun.
12” Urns
The most common question I get from clients is “How often should I water this?”. I also hear that people are looking for “low maintenance'“. So, I recently experimented with this design which incorporates only succulents. These urns should only need infrequent watering, but will still provide plenty of color and texture.
